We are very pleased to announce RentProfile has been recognised by GOV.UK for it’s work in detecting and preventing rental fraud. The case study of how RentProfile utilises Land Registry data as part of its landlord checks is available to read on the GOV.UK site.

We hope that other data custodians, especially those within the housing sector, such as landlord license schemes or (proposed) landlord prosecution registers, consider the benefits of making information available, in a responsible manner, so that it can be built upon and enhanced by 3rd parties.

In the Autumn Statement the UK government clarified that the Land Registry “should focus on becoming a more digital data-driven registration business, and to do this will remain in the public sector”. This ended months of speculation about ownership and we’re encouraged by the Land Registry’s renewed focus on digital services.

We regard the Land Registry as a valued partner and look forward to continuing our work with them.

RentProfile provides means to search and verify landlord details, protecting prospective tenants from fraudsters posing as landlords to steal their deposit and initial rent payment. RentProfile’s landlord verification includes identity, rental property ownership, history of housing prosecutions and reports from other renters.
