This blog post was edited on 27 August 2021 with the Home Office update that Right to Rent checks will now end on 5 April 2022.

To help agents stay compliant with recent right to rent legislative changes, we have updated our end-to-end Right to Rent service. EEA/Swiss citizens can no longer use their passport as proof of Right to Rent; instead, RentProfile can now verify their right to rent using the Home Office checker.

Introducing our end-to-end Home Office Right to Rent checking service

As part of our Right to Rent service, we can now conduct end-to-end checks for EEA/Swiss citizens who have been living in the UK, and other tenants who:

  • have a biometric residence card or permit
  • have settled or pre-settled status
  • applied for a visa and used the ‘UK Immigration: ID Check’ app.

We verify tenants’ right to rent on behalf of your agency using the Home Office checker. Our update can help you stay compliant to changes in right to rent legislation, as well as saving time on your admin, as these checks are fully completed by RentProfile.

How will our Right to Rent service change in the coming months?

RentProfile Agents app

Our end-to-end Home Office Right to Rent checking service will be available indefinitely to agents.

Regarding our temporary virtual Right to Rent checks, we will continue to conduct these on behalf of your agency until 5 April 2022, which is when the temporary adjusted period ends. This is for tenants who require manual (virtual during COVID-19) checks and aren’t eligible for the Home Office checker – for example, tenants with a British passport.

After 5 April 2022, agents can still use the RentProfile Agents app to securely capture images of documents (British passports for example) in-person, such as during viewings. Our Home Office Right to Rent checks will also still continue.
